Role of the Speaker
As the elected chairperson of the municipal Council, the Speaker presides over Council meetings, maintains order and ensures that proceedings are conducted in line with the rules and the law. The Speaker also safeguards the rights of councillors and strengthens the link between Council and the communities it serves.
