Emalahleni Local Municipality held a workshop for the day on the Integrated Waste Management Plan, a plan for a period of five years which will include the implementation plan so as to be in a better position to measure the effect of the plan at the end of the day.
The municipality in 2015 won an award at the district level as the greenest municipality and proceeding to the provincial level came position three. The programme was looking into the systems available for waste and environmental management.
Director for Community Services Ms Nokulunga Nyezi when welcoming attendees said, “Ikamva Consulting is appointed to develop an Integrated Waste Management Plan. The attendance here shows that Emalahleni Local Municipality is the highly favoured institution and the employer of choice. The support we get from the District is appreciated; the coordination of our internal departments as well as sector departments is noticeable”.
“We have got a forward plan and as such we will pride ourselves by having an end product made up of the comments, views and ideas of all roleplayers”, said Nyezi.
Ms Noluvo Tshabeni Waste Management Practitioner said, “We are here today to develop an Integrated Waste Management Plan which will assist us all for proper management of waste. This exercise seeks to ensure that we get views of all roleplayers as sector department, Chris Hani District Municipality and stakeholders in the form of recycling co-operatives are part of this session”.
“We want to get support from the recyclers in our area to ensure that we work together going forward hence we are to develop a plan together. We are guided by the legislation”, said Ms Tshabeni.
