The Mayor for Emalahleni Local Municipality Councillor Nomveliso Nyukwana will participate in the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders fourth United Cities and Local Government Congress as the special guest. The conference is scheduled to take place from the 1-4 October 2013 in Rabat, Morocco. On this occasion one hundred year’s anniversary of the municipal movement will be celebrated and the launch of the debate on the Agenda of the Cities and Regions Post 2015 and Habitat III.
The Honorable Mayor is expected to speak during the Parallel session on Development and Decentralized Cooperation that will take place on the 03rd October in ISESCO,Salle A.Saoud.
The central theme of the Congress “Imagine Society, Build Democracy”, will allow for the aspirations of local and regional governments to be heared and will highlight their role in reinforcement of local government as well as their contributions to global governance. Within this central theme a number of issues in which local and regional governments play a vital role will be discussed i.e
- Fostering wellbeing
- Strengthening solidarity among territories
- Supporting new local governance and the dynamics of change
- And Promoting diversity
South Africa, the Eastern Cape Province, Chris Hani District Municipality and in particular Emalahleni Local Municipality will be represented on this Global event and as such the voice of the most rural remote areas will be taken across.
