In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Recently Back-to-School campaign made a significant impact at Bengu Agricultural School in the Eastern Cape. The event, graced by Member of the Executive Committee Nonkqubela Pieters, was a testament to the power of collaboration and support for education.

MEC Pieters was joined by Chris Hani District Municipality Member of the Mayoral Committee Councillor Malibongwe Fatyela, and Mayor Councillor Nontombizanele Koni of Emalahleni Local Municipality, showcasing a united front in prioritizing education. The event drew stakeholders from various organizations, including the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Eastern Cape Development Corporation, and East London IDZ.

At the assembly, MEC Nonkqubela Pieters took the opportunity to encourage learners, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. Her primary concern was ensuring the school is adequately prepared for learning and teaching, addressing past challenges where the first week of school was spent preparing for classes. “It’s time for a change,” she emphasized, urging stakeholders to work together to create a conducive learning environment.

The Office of the MEC responded to the school’s needs, donating essential items to support the learners and educators. The donations included 20 x 10kg bags of maize, watering cans, seeds, 80 pairs of school shoes, 1000 sanitary pads, 30 pairs of socks, trees, forks, and spades. These contributions will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of the learners and the school’s overall development.

The event highlighted the importance of partnerships in education. The presence of various stakeholders demonstrated a collective commitment to supporting schools and promoting a culture of learning. As MEC Pieters noted, “We need to work together to ensure our schools are ready for learning and teaching, and that our children receive the education they deserve.”
