The Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality Mrs Nomveliso Nyukwana will soon take a trip to Dakar, Senegal to participate on the Capacity and Institution Building Working Group as one of the panellists. She will be sharing a stage with leaders like Mr Moukaram Oceni who is the Chair and the Mayor of Porto Novo in Benin, Mr Habraham Shamumoyo the Executive director of the Association of Local Authorities of Tanzania, Mr Castro Sanfins Namuaca Mayor of Nampula in Mozambique and Ms Lise Burcher Chair of the Standing committee on International Relations Federation of Canadian Municipalities (Canada).

Panellists will be doing presentations on the following topics: Strategic planning for the cities of tomorrow, to share experiences from Benin, Local economic development in South Africa (Benchmarking and way forward), The role of local government associations in local economic development, The local economic development and territorial planning in Nampula Mozambique and the Role of decentralized cooperation in creating the enabling environment.

This is the platform where South Africa, the Eastern Cape, Chris Hani District Municipality and in particular Emalahleni local municipality will share challenges, strides and alternative solutions with the participating countries on the benchmarking model on local economic development. The programme is targeting local economic development in all aspects i.e housing development establishment looking in all the necessities of a Human settlement and the economic position of it in the near future.

Emalahleni Local Municipality was involved from this initiative from the beginning and as such had visitors from VNG International at the beginning of the year to familiarize the municipality with the focus area of this programme in this period, LED.
