Subject: Mayor Councillor Nomveliso Nyukwana is invited to attend the 5th UCLG Congress World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders to be held on 12-15 October at the Corferias Convention Center, in Bogota Colombia, back- to- back with the Habitat III Conference.

Emalahleni Local Municipality Mayor Councillor Nomveliso Nyukwana as part of the engagements during the conference of United Cities and Local Government which was held in Rabat, Morocco in 2012, she was nominated as one of the Champions for the development Cooperation of a global organisation of UCLG. She is working with those responsible for leading the work of the UCLG Champions on behalf of the Committee on Development Cooperation and City Diplomacy. In 2015 she was invited to participate in the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) that was held in Kampala, Republic of Uganda. A series of sessions/conferences were held from various African countries to discuss issues of development i.e Millennium Development Goals (checking into progress made thus far).

The Republic of South Africa, Eastern Cape Province, Chris Hani District in particular Emalahleni Local Municipality is honoured to be represented by the Champion of the world body in the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders.

The Mayor is invited to take part in the Global Agenda of Local and Regional Governments for the 21st Century under the motto “Local Voices for a Better World”. This platform will create an opportunity for local governments to discuss the major social, environmental, economic and cultural trends that are affecting our day to day work on the ground, as well as to define the key recommendations of local and regional governments to Habitat III. The 2016 World Summit will explore the structural changes that are needed to approach development differently, including more inclusive forms of governance, innovative financing mechanism and new patterns of production and consumption.

This world summit will reflect the vision and legacy of local and regional authorities on the main challenges of the global development agendas (SDGs, Habitat III) and voice priorities that are not currently included in the global negotiations.
